What exactly is “AMO” in France?
AMO stands for Assistance à Maîtrise d'Ouvrage — support for the project owner (you). As an independent building expert, I act on your side of the table: I help you scope the project, analyse the builders' quotes, monitor the site and take delivery of the works. The builders work for you; I make sure they deliver what you're paying for.
I don't speak fluent French. How does that work on site?
That's precisely where this service earns its keep. I handle the technical dialogue with the French builders — site meetings, technical emails, negotiations — and report back to you clearly in plain terms. You make the decisions; I make sure nothing gets lost in translation.
What is the difference between AMO and full project management?
With AMO you remain in charge of your project and contract directly with the builders; I am your independent technical adviser. With full project management (maîtrise d'œuvre), I direct the site myself and carry professional liability for the mission. When should I bring you in?
The earlier the better: ideally when defining the project, before requesting quotes. But I can also step in mid-project — to analyse quotes you've already received, take over site monitoring, or assist you at handover.
How much can this save me?
Savings come from several levers: quote analysis (overpriced or unnecessary items removed), genuine competition between builders, and above all defects avoided or caught early. On a project worth tens of thousands of euros, the support very often pays for itself — not counting the peace of mind.
